Only for Use in Private Waters

Opera house traps have a steel ring to Prohibit the entry of unwanted animals, like turtles and platypus.  Generally most state Fisheries Departments will only allow traps with rings to be used in "Public Waters". (Please check the fishing regulations in your state).

Opera House Traps without a ring are a special type trap used by commercial crayfish farmers.  Without a ring the crayfish enter and then find it very hard to escape as the entrance closes behind them.  They catch large amounts of crayfish, hence they are used by commercial farmers. These type traps are very effective at catching crayfish but without a ring they will also catch animals like turtles and platypus. Because they can catch these animals they are prohibited from use in "Public Waters" by most state Fisheries Departments.  They can only be used on private property.  You can only use these style traps in your own farm dams not in the local creeks.
